American Electric Power (AEP)
General James M. Gavin Plant
Geiger Brothers has undertaken several projects for AEP’s Gavin Plant in Gallia County, Ohio. Company projects have included work on a flue gas desulfurization (FGD, or scrubber) retrofit project in 1994; the company also served as architectural contractor for finish work to a number of station buildings. More recently, Geiger Brothers has replaced the fly ash lines running across the campus and has been responsible for various other pipe fabrication, installation and maintenance projects.
EKPC Spurlock Station
Geiger Brothers has done work since 2007 on the Spurlock generating station expansion at Maysville, Kentucky, for East Kentucky Power Cooperative (EKPC) and in partnership with Alstom/APComPower, Inc.
Projects have included HVAC, plumbing, instrumentation, piping (steam and condensate, dust collector, make-up water), valves and specialty items. This work was part of flue gas desulfurization (FGD) projects for Units 1 & 2. The instrumentation package for all units provides valuable operating information to the owner.
Geiger Brothers received in 2009 the contract to fabricate and erect the pipe bridge for the new Unit 4 ash silo at the Spurlock station. Geiger Brothers designed and fabricated the pipe bridge at its Jackson shop.
Along with pipe bridge steel erection, Geiger Brothers was responsible for all fly ash, bed ash, service water and air piping required to complete the work scope. Geiger Brothers also was charged with installing blowers and ancillary silo equipment. The photos below illustrate the work involved in erecting the bridge and installing pipe.
